What a wonderful day! Fortune decreed that we stop at in the tiny town of Huckberry, at an inticing, though somewhat tumble down gift shop. Well how could we pass by a Route 66 chalk board, a tomb stone for the old road with a pair of cowboy boots at the foot of it, and ,strangely enough, a toothbrush, sticking up out of the ground. Inside was a veritable treasure trove of memorabilia of Route 66, but the absolute jewel in the crown was the owner,Bob. He was generous to a fault and plied us with raspberry tea [delicious], maple syrup [Funks, of course], chilli powder [his father's recipie], and shared with us his absolute romance with the road. As we left he called after us,'' Say Hi to those girls from Oklaholma from me!'', as our next stop, this time definately planned, was at the Frontier Cafe, Truxton.

As we entered Mildred welcomed us warmly and the first thing that we saw was the tea cloth we had left her, with the Irish recipies on it, pinned to the wall along with our Polaroid and card. Just as we finished breakfast, Vera appeared, this time sporting a Route 66 Fun Run sweat shirt as the annual procession of vintage cars had just passed through Truxton that weekend. ''Only yesterday Mildred was saying 'the girls should be on their way back now, they should be passing by any day,'" Vera said as she joined us at our table. And I thought, 'What if we hadn't had time to call in? What if we hadn't seen the tea towel pinned in pride of place on the wall? But we knew that whatever happened we had a rendez-vous at the Frontier Cafe, Truxton, and we were expected.

For the first time on the trip we had arranged to meet up with other people. George and Kelly had diiven up from Phoenix to film part of the trip and we were to meet them at The Snow Cap, Seligman, at 12.30. they arrived bang on time, though we had coufused the somewhat, by calling the Snowcap the Shake Shack instead, probably due to the large, indeed almost embarrasing quantity of milk shake we had consumed there on our journey from east to west. They were a great team, proffesional, helpful and bloody nice. It was a joy to share this part of the trip with them.
