I was glad we'd kept that bottle we got from Rich's store in Illinois. It had been rolling around in the back of the car, but we knew we would use it. On paper torn from a Sherlock Holmes journal, which gave an extra sense of mystery, I wrote this, 'I've wanted to come here all my life. I've just seen the Pacific Ocean for the first time, from the dizzying heights of the ferris wheel. This is my first message in a bottle.' As well as our messages, we also enclosed the blue Maidstone, Kent pencil we'd written them in and I threw the bottle hard into the ocean.
