Once when I was visiting my Dad in Oklahoma, his friend Tommy, who was
somewhat puzzled by the notion that I lived in Britain, struck up a
conversation with me:
'How long have you been over there ? He asked.
'About eight years,' I said.
'Did you go over there by yourself?'
I nodded yes.
He looked at me with total mystification and asked earnestly, 'Now why would
you want to do that ?'
I didn't really have an answer to that question I was willing to share with
Tommy, so I just kind of shrugged.
Tommy paused for a moment and said with decision, 'I never go any where I
can't drive myself.'
