Today George and Kelly drove up from the Institute for Studies in the Arts at Arizona State University to do some filming for us that will be used as part of BBC documentary about the project. Kelly was in the backseat filming as I drove the car and Helen drove the laptop and we both chattered furiously. Abruptly, the old road, which is a beautiful redish pink in this part of Arizona, ended in a series of pot holes and weeds in the road, thus ending our 'traveling both highways at once' shot. We could have backtracked and filmed the shot over again, but it seemed more honest, and more in keeping with the nature of our journey, a never ending series of navigational challenges, to just stop the car and film the rest of the shot sitting on the old ghost road. So today's message was truly left on the road.
